Singer Katy Perry has reportedly turned down an offer of $20 million to be a judge on the new season of singing reality show "American Idol".

The show's producers were so keen to
have the 27-year-old pop star on board that they initially offered $18million and then upped their offer to $20million for a one year contract, a source said.

"She was being hotly pursued. They really wanted her," usmagazine quoted the source as saying.

But Perry turned them down, and executives continued their search to replace Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson for the new season.

In July, Mariah Carey was officially roped in to judge, accepting an $18 million pay, which made her the highest-paid judge on any music competition show.

Other stars who may be in the running for the line-up include Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Alanis Morissette.

According to TMZ, rapper Kanye has also 'expressed interest' in filling the third spot on the show.

'He's on the fence,' a source reportedly claimed, because he's not sure if American Idol 'is in his wheelhouse'.
