The Miss World 2012 winner has been crowned as Miss China Yu Wenxia. The announcement sparked huge celebrations at the event which this year was being held in Mongolia.

Yu, 23, is an aspiring music teacher who said at the event, "When I was young I felt very lucky because so many people helped me, and I hope in the future I can help more children to feel lucky."

Yu becomes China's second ever Miss World winner, and was handed over the crown by 2011 winner Miss Venezuela Ivian Sarcos.

The event this year was being held in the Dongsheng stadium in the northeastern city of Ordos, Inner Mongolia, and featured the highest number of contestants ever to take part in a single Miss World event.

In total 116 contestants entered to try and win the crown, with all of them taking to the stage during the final in an array of stunning dress gowns.

Miss Wales Sophie Moulds took second place, while Miss Australia Jessica Kahawaty finished in third spot.

The 2013 Miss World Final is scheduled to take place in the South East Asian resort island of Bali, according to organizers.
