The auditor general of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Administration has been kidnapped by unknown persons, the International Centre for Investigative Reporting is reporting this evening.

A source told ICIR the auditor general, Fred Omaka, was kidnapped Sunday  along with his wife and an unspecified number of children when the family was returning to
Abuja from a trip toEdo State, his home state.

The incident is said to have happened around 12 p.m. on Sunday.

Details of the incident are still sketchy but an ICIR source, who is a friend of the family, said that the kidnappers had already contacted his family and demanded a N20 million ransom.

The source said Mr. Omaka’s whereabouts are not known and that the family only got to know of his kidnap when those holding him called to ask for a ransom.

Attempts to reach and speak to the victim’s family have failed as members have been warned not to talk to the press.

The first son of the kidnapped man is said to be doing everything to get his father released.

Also, efforts to confirm the incident at the office of the FCT minister failed as no official was ready to talk to our reporter. The special assistant to the FCT minister on media,Jemila Tangaza, did not pick calls to her mobile telephone.
She also did not respond to enquiries sent to her through text messages.
