Emir of Fika and Chairman of Yobe state Council of Chiefs, Mohammed Abali Ibn Idrissa, escaped a suicide bomber's attempt on his life friday 3,
afternoon.

Three people, including the suicide bomber are said to have died in the blast. It was gathered that the Emir was not injured.

The bomber - who had the explosives strapped to his body - had tried to get close to the Emir after the Friday prayers at the Potiskum Central Mosque located at the Emir's palace but was stopped by a police aide to the Emir.

The Emir was retiring to his palace from the mosque when the attack
happened. Eyewitnesses told source that the suicide bomber then brought out a gun when he saw he
was going to be prevented from reaching his target. However, the bomb exploded before he could make further progress, hurling parts of his body all over the place.

Three others also have been confirmed injured from the blast.
"The Police orderly of the Emir lost one of his hands while trying to push the suicide bomber who was manouvering to get closer to the Emir," Sadiq Usman an eyewitness told source.

Yesterday's incident comes three weeks after a similar attempt on the life of the Shehu of Borno.

Similarly, there was a bomb explosion at the Mahuta area of Igabi Local Government Council of Kaduna State on Thursday night, killing the suspected suicide bomber on the spot.

But for the youths in the area, several lives and property would have been destroyed. The youths, according to an eyewitness, had
mobilised themselves to arrest the deceased, but unknown to them, the suspect was primed with an Improvised Explosive Device.

The eyewitness told our correspondent that the bomber and others had entered the Afaka district in that area, on an alleged mission to eliminate the District Head, Abduwahab Aliyu.

“The incident happened about 10 pm on Thursday when some suspicious persons entered the village and some residents started
questioning them and discovered that they werearmed.

“The youths were able to disarm one of them who admitted that they were on a mission to kill the village head for allegedly exposing their
members.”
