Gruesome Attack On FedPoly Mubi Student’s Hostel Leaves Atleast 20 Students Dead

According to popular blogger Linda Ikeji, at least 20 students of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamawa State, were last night, shot dead by unknown gunmen.

The men had allegedly invaded the off-campus student hostel around 11pm, rounded some students up, lined them
up, asked a few questions and then separated the students into two groups. One group was allowed to go and the other group, with about 20 students, were all shot dead – execution style.

Already, students in the hostel have reportedly started evacuating the building in fear of another attack.

The institution’s management is yet to issue a statement on the murders.

Mr Onyemachi Samuel Ejikeme is the acting Rector of the polytechnic.

While according to BBC, At least 25 students of the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa State have been killed by unknown gunmen for reasons yet to be ascertained.

However, a recent raid on Mubi by the military had uncovered a large arsenal of weapons and ammunition, with many suspects rounded up. It is suspected that this raid, in which the JTF claimed the Boko Haram militant group members were arrested, could be the reason behind the attack on the hostels.

According to a lecturer who spoke to the BBC, more than 40 students had been killed but there has been no official comment. The lecturer, who did not want his name to be used, toldthe BBC’s Hausa service that men in military uniform asked the students to line up and then say their names. Some were then shot dead and others stabbed with knives, and their bodies leftin lines outside the buildings.

The lecturer says it is not clear why some were killed and others spared – some of those killed were Muslims and others Christians. The lecturer added that students were now leaving the town, many with tree branches over their cars – a traditional sign of neutrality in Nigeria, “Everybody is scared.”

Other residents of Mubi say they heard gunfire for about two hours during the night and that those living near the hostel were also targeted. Meanwhile, the authorities have imposed an indefinite curfew in the town and ordered residents to stay indoors.
