According to a well-connected industry source, Black Entertainment Network (BET) is considering banning Chris Brown’s videos from the music channel. The source of the conflict is Brown’s refusal to perform during the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards — even though he was in Atlanta that weekend.
The confidential source told Sandrarose.com exclusively that BET execs reached out to
Brown’s management to see if the singer would perform during the taped telecast last weekend. One of Brown’s managers, Tina Davis, initially agreed to allow Brown to perform, said the source.
“[Brown] agreed to perform a tribute to Chris Lighty with 50 Cent,” said the source.
But at the last minute, Brown’s people decided they didn’t want Brown “performing with any of the artists” on the show.
“A lot of artists didn’t want to perform at the Hip Hop Awards this year, said the source, who begged for anonymity. “Lil Wayne didn’t want to perform, Nicki Minaj didn’t want to perform — but those artists didn’t fly down here just to get paid for after parties.”
“BET is not happy with him,” continued the source, who added that BET execs are considering banning Brown from the network.
