According to report from SaharaReporters the corpses of an official of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and one other person who died when their car plunged into a river in the northern city of Kaduna are yet to be recovered.
A source related to the missing NNPC official told
SaharaReporters that the man’s family was distressed by the continued failure to recover his remains. He said the search team had so far only found and recovered the corpse of the driver. The driver’s body was yesterday removed from the river located in Jere, near Kaduna.
The NNPC official, a relative of his and their driver perished on Friday night when their car plunged into the river.
The efforts to recover the corpses began on Saturday, but were slowed because both the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) lacked the equipment needed for such a task.
Our source disclosed that even the NNPC could not offer effective help with water expertise in tracing the corpses.
A relative of the dead NNPC official gave his name as Jibrin Suleiman He disclosed that the corpse of the driver was recovered at a different location when it was found floating.
“But the corpses of Mr. Suleiman and another relation are still not found. This is a grievous moment for the family,” he said.
A source at the NNPC headquarters in Abuja told SaharaReporters that corporation was expecting a team of amphibian divers from the NNPC’s operational base in the Niger Delta to arrive in Jere for an intensified search of the river. “The team on ground in Kaduna will continue with the search until the arrival of the amphibian team,” the source said.
