A huge fire engulfed the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, Kenya on Wednesday. The airport was shut down for some time and all passengers were evacuated.
The situation is now under control and officials say that the domestic flights service and cargo service has been resumed. International flights have not been cleared yet.
The cause of the fire has not been established and no casualties have been reported so far.
The fire, which started at around 4.30 a.m. hit the international arrival section of the airport mostly.
The smoke and fire could be seen coming out of the section as firefighters struggled to contain the flames.
Interior Ministry Provincial Secretary Mutea Iringo cancelled all flights in and out of the airport, with an exception to emergency landings until the situation normalizes.
Mutea Iringo said, "The fire is massive. We have overwhelming support but it has affected the arrivals. Arrivals and immigration were badly damaged. The airport has been closed down".
All the flights were re-routed to Mombasa International Airport and Eldoret International Airport.
