The police on Thursday confirmed the killing of three persons by unknown gunmen, who attacked Gubio, headquarters of Gubio Local Government Area of Borno.

Alhaji Bala Hassan, the state Commissioner of Police, told
newsmen in Maiduguri that the attack took place on Wednesday.

Hassan explained that the victims included two policemen and a civilian, adding that the police had launched a manhunt for the attackers.

``We have not made any arrest yet but we have spread our dragnet for them. We are combing the entire area in search of them.
We will get them sooner or later,’’ he said. However, residents had earlier told newsmen that a group of about 10 gunmen had invaded the town located about 85 kilometres from Maiduguri in the
evening.

``Some gunmen invaded the town in the evening shortly after Muslims had broken their fast
for the day.
``They went straight to the Gubio Police Station where they attacked the officers on duty before heading for the Local Government secretariat,’’ Mr Modu Ibrahim, a resident, said. Ibrahim added that the attackers also burnt down part of the secretariat before fleeing to an unknown destination.

Source recalls that two Indians were killed on Wednesday in Maiduguri by unknown gunmen, who attacked the Gum Arabic factory. (NAN)
